So, I was messing around with this idea for a blog post – “World Cup Top Scorers”. I just wanted to put down who got the most goals in each World Cup, you know? Kind of like a “golden boot” or “golden shoe” winners list. It’s not a super common list you see around, so I thought, why not?

I started by looking up who these “golden” guys were for each World Cup. It is not as easy as you think! Many websites just gave me current stats and didn’t go back far enough in time. I had to visit multiple pages and stitch the information together.
The first thing I did was write down each year that a World Cup was held. I started from the beginning. I made a list using a simple bullet point, like this:
- 1930
- 1934
- 1938
- 1942
And so on… I noticed that there were no world cups in 1942 or 1946. So I just put “No World Cup” for those two.
After making my list, I went back to my search results and started filling in the names. I also made a note of how many goals each player scored and which country they were from. I also found out that Just Fontaine scored 13 goals in 1958. That’s nuts! That’s a record for a single World Cup, by the way.
I also remembered a player from my childhood. It was Paolo Rossi, who played for Italy in 1982. He scored 6 goals. So, I made sure to include that as well.

Once I had all the names down, I started typing them up. It was just a simple list. I figured it might be useful for someone, somewhere, someday.
Here’s a little snippet of what I ended up with:
- 1982 (Spain): Paolo Rossi, 6 goals (Italy)
- 1958 (Sweden): Just Fontaine, 13 goals (France)
It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done. I think it’s a cool little project. If you are a football fan, maybe you will like it. If not, it is still a useful bit of trivia.
