Okay, so today I tried to do something totally out there – I wanted to capture that weird, hazy feeling of dreams, you know? The title “falling dreaming talking in your sleep” just popped into my head and I thought, “Let’s do something with that.”

First, I grabbed my notebook – gotta have a place to scribble down all the random thoughts. I started by just free-writing. Anything that came to mind when I thought about that phrase. Lots of stuff about blurry images, muffled sounds, and that feeling of weightlessness when you’re falling in a dream.
Brainstorming the Vibe
- Colors: I was picturing lots of deep blues and purples, maybe with a little bit of sickly green. You know, that “off” feeling.
- Sounds: Definitely wanted some echoing, distorted sounds. Like someone talking through a thick blanket, or maybe underwater.
- Movement: slow motion,stuttered,not smooth.
Then, I started experimenting. I used some watercolor paints I had. I didn’t really have a plan, just started layering colors and letting them bleed into each other.I used lots of water to do the color-bleeding.
After the paint dried (which took forever, by the way), I took a black pen and just started doodling over the top. I wasn’t trying to draw anything specific, just let my hand move. Kinda like automatic writing, but with drawing. Lots of spirals and jagged lines, things that felt “dreamlike” to me.
Next, I decided to use that “talking in your sleep” part. I tried to record myself actually talking but it was all just normal words! What about my “dreamlike” creation!
So I gave up that plan. And I wrote down some phrases – not full sentences, just fragments of thoughts, like you’d hear in a dream. Things like “melting clocks” and “whispers in the void” and “lost in the echo”. I then scribbled those words all over the painting, in between the doodles. Some of them I wrote really big, some tiny, some upside down… just trying to make it look chaotic and dreamlike.

Honestly, the whole thing was a bit of a mess. But in a good way! It felt like I’d actually managed to capture a little bit of that dreamy, surreal *’s not perfect, but it’s something. It’s a record of me trying to tap into that weird, subconscious part of my brain. And that’s kinda cool, right?
So, yeah, that was my experiment for today. A bit weird, a bit messy, but definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon. Might try something similar again, maybe with music next time… who knows!
