It started pretty simply. I got interested in Estonia, read a bit about their digital stuff, e-Residency, all that jazz. Seemed like a cool, forward-thinking place. Then I got this idea – maybe connect with other folks who were also into Estonia, form a little group, a ‘squad’ you could say. Didn’t have a super specific goal, maybe just sharing info, perhaps collaborating on a small project, or even just for some online game team based around the theme. Sounded neat in my head.
Getting Started (or trying to)
So, first step, I started looking around. Jumped onto a few forums, checked out some social media groups related to Estonia or digital nomads. Put out some feelers, you know, posts like “Anyone interested in forming a small group focused on Estonia-related projects/chats?”
Got a few replies, which felt promising initially. A handful of people seemed interested. We exchanged a few messages, introductions, the usual stuff. Seemed like we were on the same page. This part felt easy, almost too easy.
The Reality Check
Then came the tricky part: actually organizing something. Trying to get people to agree on a time for a call, or even just a regular chat slot? Man, that was tough.
- First, time zones were all over the place. Someone’s morning was another’s middle of the night.
- Then, people’s schedules… life gets in the way, I get it. But responses became slower. “Oh, can’t make it this week,” turned into ghosting sometimes.
- We tried setting up a shared doc for ideas. A couple of people added things, then nothing for weeks.
I spent more energy trying to chase people down and coordinate than actually discussing anything meaningful about Estonia. It felt like trying to push a rock uphill. We had maybe one, possibly two brief online meetups where like, three of us showed up. It wasn’t exactly the dynamic ‘squad’ I had envisioned.
Fizzling Out
Honestly, it just sort of died down. No big blow-up or anything dramatic. The initial enthusiasm faded pretty quickly when faced with the practical challenge of remote coordination with strangers who had varying levels of commitment. People stopped responding, the chat group went silent.
So, the “Estonia squad”? Yeah, it never really materialized beyond a few initial messages and a lot of scheduling headaches. It was a good reminder that an idea is one thing, but getting a group of loosely connected people online to actually do something consistently is a whole different ballgame. Learned that lesson. Still think Estonia’s interesting, but I’m less likely to try and build a ‘squad’ from scratch like that again anytime soon. Just wasn’t worth the hassle in the end.
