Which one punch man similar anime should you binge next? We list the best action comedies for you!

Alright, let’s talk about trying to find something like One Punch Man. I got hooked on that show pretty bad. Saitama’s whole deal – being way too strong and kinda just going through the motions, mixed with those insane fights and genuinely funny moments – it was just brilliant. So, naturally, after I blasted through everything available, I was left wanting more of that specific feeling.

Starting the Hunt

So, my first move was pretty basic. I just started searching online. You know, popped things like “anime similar to One Punch Man” or “shows with super strong main character comedy” into the search bar. Saw what popped up on forums, recommendation sites, that sort of thing. Lots of lists, lots of opinions.

I also chatted with a couple of buddies who are into anime, asked them what they thought might scratch that OPM itch. Got a few suggestions thrown my way.

Trying Out the Recommendations

The most common one, like everywhere, was Mob Psycho 100. Makes sense, right? Same creator, ONE. So I figured that was the logical place to start. I jumped into it.

  • Mob Psycho 100: Okay, this one definitely felt the closest in some ways. You’ve got Mob, another super-powered dude who’s kinda awkward and trying to live a normal life. The art style sometimes has that rough, unique look like OPM, especially during the intense moments. The psychic fights are wild, really top-notch animation. It has comedy, great characters, and Mob’s journey is actually pretty compelling. It’s not exactly OPM – Mob has way more emotional growth going on, and the tone feels a bit different sometimes, maybe more focused on Mob’s internal struggles. But yeah, it definitely hit some of the same spots. Really enjoyed this one.
  • The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: This popped up a lot too, mainly for the “overpowered protagonist” and “comedy” tags. Saiki is ridiculously powerful, like Saitama, and just wants a quiet life, which is constantly interrupted. It’s hilarious, pure gag comedy mostly. But it’s very different in structure – short skits, slice-of-life focus. There isn’t really the same kind of epic action or satire of the hero genre that OPM has. Good for laughs, but didn’t quite fill the OPM void in terms of action or hype.
  • Overlord: Heard this mentioned because Ainz Ooal Gown is massively OP. Gave it a shot. It’s an isekai, dude gets stuck in a game world as his crazy powerful character. It has the OP MC, but the vibe is totally different. It’s much darker, more about strategy, world-building, and ruling. Less about goofy humor and more about Ainz being this calculating undead overlord. Interesting show, but not really what I was looking for after OPM.
  • Mashle: Magic and Muscles: This one’s newer but gets compared a lot. You’ve got Mash, a guy with zero magic in a world where magic is everything, but he makes up for it with insane physical strength. It definitely leans into the comedy of someone overcoming challenges with brute force in unexpected ways, kinda like Saitama punching his problems away. It parodies magic school tropes sort of like OPM parodies hero tropes. Lots of funny moments and decent action. It felt closer than some others, capturing that “ridiculous strength solves everything” comedy vibe.

What I Found Out

After going through these and a few others, I kinda came to a conclusion. Finding an anime that is exactly like One Punch Man is tough. It’s got such a unique blend of over-the-top action, deadpan comedy, character design, and that specific satire of superhero stuff.

Nothing really replicates the exact feeling of Saitama’s boredom contrasted with the sheer spectacle of the fights he casually ends. But, the journey wasn’t a waste at all. I found some awesome shows!

Mob Psycho 100 came closest overall, sharing the creator’s DNA and hitting notes of action, comedy, and unique characters. Mashle captured some of that specific “OP strength solves problems in a funny way” energy. Saiki K. delivered on the OP comedy but skipped the action.

So yeah, while there wasn’t a perfect one-to-one match, the process led me to discover other great anime that had elements I enjoyed in OPM. It’s more about finding shows that hit some of the same notes, rather than expecting a carbon copy. Still looking, always open to suggestions, but pretty happy with what I found along the way.
