Okay, so the other day I was trying to remember something that happened, like, a good chunk of time ago. I kept saying “it was about 8 years ago… no, wait, when was 8 years ago exactly?” I felt kinda dumb for not being able to figure it out instantly, so I decided to make it absolutely clear.

I grabbed my phone first, thinking I’d just use the calculator. But then I thought, “Nah, let’s make this a little more… permanent.” I wanted a quick way to always know, you know?
My Super Simple Solution
So, I opened up the most basic text editor I have – good old Notepad. Nothing fancy needed here. I decided To use a simple method.
- First I typed out the current year. Obvious, right?
- Next I subtracted 8 from it in my head.
I did * I got the final anwser.
I saved the file as “*” on my desktop. Super creative name, I know. Now, whenever my brain has a hiccup and I can’t remember what year it was 8 years ago, I just double-click that file. Boom. Instant answer.

It’s probably the most low-tech solution ever, but hey, it works! I haven’t had to struggle with that “8 years ago” question since. Sometimes the simplest things are the best, I guess. Plus, it’s a fun little reminder of how our brains can be weird sometimes.
