Alright, so today I got down to business, focusing on some techniques, kind of inspired by watching Lewis Richardson fight. Wanted to really hammer home some fundamentals.

First things first, I got my hands wrapped. Always take my time with this part, make sure they feel secure. Then I jumped straight into warming up. Did about 15 minutes – skipping rope, some light shadow boxing just to get loose, rolling the shoulders, moving the neck. The usual stuff to get the blood flowing.
Drilling the Basics
I decided to dedicate a good chunk of time just to footwork. Watching Richardson, he seems so balanced, stays composed. So, I spent a solid 20 minutes just moving. Forward and back, side steps, pivots. Really tried to stay on the balls of my feet, keeping my stance right. Focused hard on not letting my feet get tangled up or too close together. It’s basic but so important.
Next up was the jab. Just the jab, nothing else for a while. Stood in front of the bag and just worked it. Threw it again and again. Tried to focus on:
- Keeping it quick and snappy.
- Bringing it straight back to my chin fast.
- Making sure my right hand stayed glued to my jaw.
- Using my legs a little, stepping in slightly.
My left shoulder definitely felt it after a while, but that’s the point. Just repetition, trying to build that muscle memory.
Adding Layers
Once I felt okay with the jab, I started adding the right hand. Just the classic 1-2. Jab, cross. Reset. Jab, cross. Reset. Focused on turning my hip and shoulder into the cross, getting some power behind it but staying balanced. Didn’t rush it, just focused on technique. Did this for maybe another 15 minutes. Kept reminding myself to keep my chin down.

Then I did a few rounds of shadow boxing, trying to incorporate the footwork I practiced earlier with the 1-2. Moved around, visualized an opponent, tried to keep the movements fluid. Felt a bit clunky at first, but got a bit smoother as I went on. Tried to keep my guard high and tight, something Richardson seems pretty disciplined about.
Finished the session with a proper cool down. Some stretching for my arms, shoulders, back, and legs. Felt like a productive session. Didn’t try to do too much, just worked on those core elements, thinking about how guys like Richardson execute them so well. It’s all about repetition and sticking to the plan.
