So, I had this plain old photo frame just sitting around, collecting dust. Thought I’d try something different with it, maybe make it a bit more interesting. The idea? Add some stars, give it a sort of night sky vibe for a picture.

Getting Started – Prep Work
First thing, I grabbed the frame. It was a simple wooden one. Gave it a quick wipe down just to get any dust off. Didn’t bother sanding, it looked smooth enough. Then I found some dark blue paint I had left over from another project. Figured that would make a good background for stars.
Painting it was pretty straightforward. Just slapped a coat on. Had to wait for it to dry, which always feels like the longest part. Patience isn’t my strong suit, haha. Ended up needing a second coat to get the color nice and even. More waiting.
Adding the Sparkle – The Fun Part!
Okay, paint finally dry. Now for the stars. I debated a bit – use stickers, cut tiny ones out? Nah, seemed like too much work. I decided to go with glitter. Classic, easy sparkle.
Here’s what I did:
- Got some regular white glue.
- Dotted the glue randomly all over the frame surface. Tried not to make it too uniform.
- Then, the messy part: sprinkling silver glitter over the glue dots. Did this over an old newspaper to catch the fallout. Still got glitter everywhere, of course.
- Gently shook off the excess glitter.
- Let the glue dry completely. This took a while too, wanted to make sure those stars weren’t going anywhere.
Finishing Up
Once everything was totally dry, I checked it over. Looked pretty decent! The blue background with the little silver glitter spots really did give it that starry look I was going for. Didn’t bother with a sealant, just felt like leaving it as is. Maybe I’ll regret that later if the glitter starts shedding, we’ll see.

Last step was just putting the photo in. Picked a nice landscape shot I took a while back. Fit perfectly. All in all, a pretty simple project, didn’t take much actual work time, mostly just waiting for paint and glue to dry. Happy with how this little frame turned out.
