My Little Adventure Creating That ‘From Another Planet’ Look
Alright, so I got this idea stuck in my head, you know? Wanted to piece together something that looked like it wasn’t from around here. Like, proper sci-fi movie weird, but something I could actually make myself. No fancy plans, just a feeling I wanted to chase.
First thing, I went digging. Checked out my garage, the attic, that box of old Halloween stuff. Foundations are key, I figured. I grabbed some old bubble wrap – the big bubbles, yeah? – and this weird, shiny silver tablecloth I used once for a party. Also found some flexible plastic tubing, the kind you use for… well, I don’t even remember what it was for, but it looked right.
Didn’t really sketch much. I kinda just draped the silver stuff over an old t-shirt to get a basic shape. Pinned it here and there, trying to make it look less… human? Cut out some awkward, pointy shoulder bits. It was messy, lots of trial and error. Snipped a bit too much on one side, had to patch it up with duct tape. Silver duct tape, naturally, gotta keep the theme going.
Then came the bubble wrap. I wanted texture, something kinda bumpy and alien-skin like. Cut out panels and started attaching them to the silver base. Hot glue was my best friend here, seriously. Burned my fingers a couple of times, the usual story when I get into a project like this. Just stuck those panels on the chest, the back, wherever felt right. No real symmetry, that felt more… unnatural.
Adding the Weird Bits
Okay, the base was looking kinda okay, but it needed more ‘oomph’. That’s where the tubing came in. I cut lengths of it and wanted them sticking out, maybe like vents or weird growths. I painted them a sort of iridescent green-purple using some leftover craft paint. Let that dry, which took forever. Then, more hot glue! Attached them to the shoulders and hips. One kept flopping over, so I had to build a little support structure inside with some cardboard scraps.
- Grabbed old silver fabric.
- Found bubble wrap and plastic tubes.
- Draped and cut the fabric over a tee.
- Used lots of silver duct tape for fixes.
- Glued on bubble wrap panels.
- Painted tubes green/purple.
- Glued tubes onto the outfit.
- Made supports for floppy tubes.
Tried the whole thing on. Looked pretty wild, not gonna lie. The silver fabric made crinkly noises when I moved. The tubes were a bit awkward, kept bumping into doorways. But hey, it was definitely looking like it was from another planet. Added a few more random bits – some bottle caps painted silver, glued onto the bubble wrap, just for extra detail.

So yeah, that was the process. Lots of digging around, cutting things up, and gluing stuff together. No expert techniques, just messing around until it felt right. Pretty happy with how bizarre it turned out. It’s definitely a conversation starter, that’s for sure.
