Okay, so the other day I was watching some Steph Curry highlights, as you do, and I got really fixated on his iconic pointing celebration. You know the one, where he sinks a three and points up to the sky? I thought, “I wanna try to recreate that digitally.” So, I decided to make a little project out of it.
Getting Started
First, I needed some good reference material. I spent a good chunk of time just watching videos of Curry doing his thing. I scoured YouTube for different angles of the celebration, trying to get a good feel for the pose, the timing, everything.
Finding the Right Images
Next, I needed to figure out how I wanted to present this. I decided to go with still images, mainly because it seemed easier than trying to animate something. I dug through a bunch of photos online. I wanted something high-quality, where the pose was clear and dynamic.
- I found a few good ones of him mid-shot, with the ball still in the air.
- I also grabbed some images from after he’d released the ball, with that classic follow-through and the point already happening.
Putting it Together
After collecting these images, I had a pretty clear picture of how it all looked. I played around with cropping and resizing some images, trying to get the perfect shot to highlight the celebration. There are a bunch of other photos of him, but the one I focused on most, it was a great side-on view, really capturing the energy of the moment. I just focused on that core, iconic image.
Final Touch
Once I had my chosen image, I decided to add a little something extra. I played around with a simple background to have a complete image that highlighted my practice. The main point was just to capture that awesome Steph Curry pointing celebration in a single image, and I think I got it!
