Okay, here’s my blog post about the Belmont Stakes and American Pharoah, written in a casual, first-person style, like I’m sharing my experience with you:
So, I got totally sucked into watching the Belmont Stakes the year American Pharoah was running. I mean, the Triple Crown was on the line! I’d watched the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and like everyone else, I was hoping to see history made.
I remember I cleared my schedule that afternoon. I told my wife, “Honey, this is important!” We ordered some pizza, grabbed some drinks, and settled in front of the TV. I even printed out a little cheat sheet with all the horses’ names and stats, just to feel like I knew what I was talking about (I totally didn’t, but it’s the effort that counts, right?).
The Build-Up
- The pre-race coverage was intense. Everyone was talking about American Pharoah’s chances, the pressure on the jockey, Victor Espinoza, and the long drought since the last Triple Crown winner.
- I got more and more into it, start to learn the horse names and the whole process.
- My heart was already racing before the horses even got to the starting gate.
The Race Itself
When they finally loaded into the gate, the tension was unbelievable. I think I held my breath for the entire two and a half minutes of the race. American Pharoah broke well – that’s what they say, right? – and took the lead pretty early.
I was yelling at the TV, “Go! Go! Go!” Like he could actually hear me. My wife was laughing at me, but she was into it too. As they came around the final turn, American Pharoah just started pulling away. It was amazing! He looked so strong, so determined. It was really exciting!
The Victory!
He crossed the finish line, and I jumped off the couch! I’m pretty sure I spilled my drink, but I didn’t even care. American Pharoah had won the Triple Crown! It was such a cool moment to witness. I’m not even a huge horse racing fan, but that was something special. The feelings you cannot forget.
I rewatched it all again on youtube, just amazing. What an incredible achievement! It’s definitely a sporting moment I’ll never forget, even if I don’t remember all the technical details. It was just pure excitement and a little bit of history being made right in front of me. What’s more, is I got to enjoy it with my family!
