Right, so I wanted to talk about this New Zealand rugby jersey I got my hands on a while back.

Always kinda liked watching the rugby, you know? And the All Blacks, well, they’ve got that whole vibe, that black kit looks pretty sharp on the telly.

Wasn’t like I needed one, but just thought it’d be cool to have, maybe wear it when watching a match or something.

Anyway, my sister actually got it for me. She was travelling, I think, or maybe found it online somewhere, can’t quite recall exactly how she tracked it down. Took a bit of effort on her part, I reckon.

She just showed up with it one day, wrapped up. Bit of a surprise, that. Didn’t even ask for it specifically.

First Look and Feel

So I unwrapped the thing. First thing you notice is, yeah, it’s black. Like, really black. Proper deep colour.

The material felt… interesting. Not like a regular cotton t-shirt at all. Bit thicker, sort of technical fabric, I guess you’d call it? Stretchy but strong.

Had that silver fern logo on it, stitched on properly, not just printed. Felt quite solid and well-made when I ran my fingers over it.

Felt proper, you know? Like the real deal.

  • Checked the seams and stitching inside, looked alright, tidy enough.
  • Looked at the collar design, bit different from a normal shirt, more structured.
  • Overall, seemed well put together, not flimsy.

Tried it on straight away, naturally. Had to see how it fit.

Fit was okay, maybe a bit snugger than my usual stuff, especially around the shoulders and chest. But that’s how these rugby jerseys often are, I reckon, designed to be tighter fitting. Not uncomfortable, just… makes you aware you’re wearing it.

Wore it down the pub once to watch a big game. Felt the part, you know? Got a nod or two, mostly from folks who followed the rugby. Felt kind of cool, actually, being part of that atmosphere, even just with the shirt.

It’s definitely a recognisable piece of kit.

Looking After It

Washing it is pretty straightforward. Just look at the label inside, tells you what to do. I usually turn it inside out, wash it on a cooler setting, just to be safe with the colour and the logos.

Seems to hold its colour okay so far, hasn’t faded much which is good. The material hasn’t gone baggy either.

It’s not something I wear every single day, obviously. It’s more for specific occasions, like when there’s a big match on, or maybe if I’m meeting up with mates to watch sport.

Yeah, overall, glad I’ve got it. It’s a decent bit of gear, feels authentic enough for me. Represents one of the top teams, doesn’t it? Still got it hanging up, ready for the next game.
