Unlock All MK XL Fatalities: Simple Tips and Tricks for Beginners

So, I finally got around to diving into Mortal Kombat XL again. I was a big fan of Mortal Kombat X, so I thought I would spend time on XL. Man, it’s been a while, but I wanted to really master all those fatalities. You know, those bone-crunching, spine-ripping finishing moves? That’s where the real fun is, right?

First off, I had to remember which characters I was even good at. I used to be a beast with Sub-Zero, but I figured I’d try out some others this time around. I dusted off the old controller and started practicing with a few different fighters, just basic combos and stuff.

Then, I wanted to see the full list of fatalities. I went to the in-game moves list. Some fatalities were already unlocked, but there were a ton of them that were still hidden. 26 secret fatalities, can you believe it? The game said performing them once would unlock their button combinations.

I started with the stage fatalities. I had to go to those specific stages, like The Pit and The Kove. It took a bit of trial and error to figure out the right distance and button combinations. It’s pretty cool when you finally nail it, though. The stage fatalities are always so brutal and over-the-top.

Next, I focused on individual character fatalities. Each character has their own unique set, and some of them are pretty tricky to pull off. I spent hours in practice mode, just trying to get the timing and inputs just right. Like, for Alien, I learned I had to connect a FACEHUGGER during the first round, and then the final hit had to be from OVOMORPH or FACEHUGGER after OVOMORPH. It’s tougher than it sounds! I messed up so many times, but it felt awesome when I finally got it.

Here’s what I managed to figure out:

  • Most fatalities need you to be a certain distance from your opponent. Some require you to be close, others you gotta be like a jump distance away, and some you gotta be pretty far, like a full screen away.
  • The button combinations can be a real pain. You gotta be quick and precise, or you’ll just end up punching the air.
  • Practice mode is your best friend. Seriously, I spent so much time in there. It’s the only way to really get the hang of it.
  • It will take time. It is not easy to do it.

After a lot of practice, I finally performed all the fatalities at least once. It was a grind, but so satisfying. Now, all the button combinations are unlocked in my moves list, which is super convenient. I can finally show off my skills online. It was a long journey, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some spines to rip.
