Tommy Fleetwood Putting Grip: Discover the Technique Used by the Golfing Superstar

So, I’ve been messing around with my putting grip lately, trying to get that Tommy Fleetwood magic on the greens. You know, he’s got that solid, consistent stroke, and I was thinking, “Hey, maybe his grip’s got something to do with it.”

First off, I started digging into what kind of grip he actually uses. Turns out, it’s not some crazy, custom thing. He’s got this Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip, which is like the go-to for a ton of pros. But here’s the kicker – he uses the cord version on his woods and wedges. I thought that was pretty neat, getting that extra grip when you need it most.

But on his putter, it’s a bit different. I read somewhere that Mark O’Meara was using something similar way back in 2003. It’s all about that firm feel, you know? You want to feel connected to the putter, but not like you’re choking the life out of it.

So, I went out and got myself one of these Tour Velvet grips. It was kind of fun, trying to change the grip. Slid the old one off, got the new one on there, and I was ready to roll. Or, well, putt.

  • Went to the practice green.
  • Spent a good hour just hitting putts.
  • Tried to get a feel for this new grip.

Honestly, it felt pretty good. It’s definitely firm, but not in a bad way. More like, “I’m in control here” kind of way. I started noticing that my stroke felt a bit smoother, more consistent. Maybe it was just in my head, but I felt like I had a better sense of where the putter face was pointing.

Day Two

I was back out there, this time with a buddy. We played a little putting game, just to see how the new grip held up under pressure. And you know what? I actually did pretty well. Sank a few long ones, felt good about my reads, and overall, just felt more confident on the greens.

Now, I’m not saying this grip is going to turn me into Tommy Fleetwood overnight. But it’s definitely made a difference in how I feel over the ball. It’s like, I’ve got a better connection with the putter, and that’s helping me make a more consistent stroke. I am going to keep working with it, keep practicing, and see where it takes me. Maybe I’ll start draining putts like a pro. Who knows?
