Okay, so, I tried that Tom Brady tee shot thing today, you know, the one everyone’s been talking about. I saw this video of Brady totally messing up his shot at Pebble Beach, and I thought, “Hey, I can do better than that… or at least as bad, which is still funny.” I mean, the guy’s a legend in football, but golf? Not so much, apparently.
So, I grabbed my clubs—well, borrowed my buddy’s clubs, to be honest—and headed to the local driving range. This place is nothing like Pebble Beach, more like a slightly neglected patch of grass, but it does the job. I set up the ball, trying to channel my inner golfer, which mostly involved not laughing at myself.
The Swing
- First attempt: I swung, and… whiffed it. Completely missed the ball. I could hear some teenagers giggling behind me, but hey, even Brady had a bad day, right?
- Second try: This time, I actually hit the ball, but it sliced to the right so hard I think it ended up in the parking lot. I’m pretty sure I saw a squirrel run for its life.
- Third shot: Okay, this one was a bit better. It went straight, but it had about as much power as a gentle breeze. It probably rolled about ten feet. Progress, I guess?
I kept at it for a while, each swing a new adventure in how not to play golf. I didn’t even try to keep score, because honestly, it was more about the entertainment value at that point. My buddy was filming the whole thing, probably for future blackmail material, but whatever, it was a good laugh.
By the end, I was sweaty, a little sore, and had a newfound respect for anyone who can actually play this game. I definitely didn’t become the next Tiger Woods, but I did manage to create some pretty hilarious moments, just like Brady. Maybe golf isn’t my sport, but it sure makes for a good story. Plus, I got some fresh air and a bit of exercise, so that’s a win in my book. I might even try it again, just to see if I can out-fail my first attempt. Who knows, maybe I’ll go viral, too, for all the wrong reasons.
