Okay, so the other day I was thinking, how cool would it be to actually organize a “Taylor Olympics”? I mean, who wouldn’t want to be part of that? It’s every athlete’s dream, right? But it’s not just about dreaming; it’s about the hard work, the determination, and the years of training that go into it.

First off, I started reading up on the official stuff. You know, the Olympic Charter and the rules from the International Federations. It’s all pretty serious business. I looked into what it takes to qualify for Team USA, for instance. There are these U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials where athletes have to come out on top or at least place really high to get a spot.
Then, I went down this rabbit hole of joining the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). I found out you can actually join online. It’s like 14 bucks for athletes and 16 for non-athletes, which is basically what you need to be a coach. Some sports even need an AAU Club Membership. It felt like I was getting closer to making this Taylor Olympics a real thing.
I got a bit sidetracked thinking about Taylor Swift herself. I wonder if she’d ever go to the Olympics? She hasn’t said anything about it, but I noticed she doesn’t have a concert on August 11th. Could she be there? Just imagining her at the Olympics made me even more pumped about my Taylor Olympics idea.
Digging Deeper
My research took me to some cool history. Did you know John Taylor was the first black Olympic gold medalist? He won all these 440y titles while at Penn. That’s some serious inspiration right there. I also stumbled upon Taylor Knibb’s info, but all I could find was her birthday, February 14th. Still, every Taylor adds to the excitement, right?
I started to really get into the planning stages. I pictured it: the Winter Olympics are coming up, and everyone’s going to be watching. What if I could get a few people together, maybe some students, and kick off the planning for our own Taylor Olympics? I even thought about how cool it would be to have a Student Ambassador Breakfast, just like I read about some school doing. It’s a great way to get everyone on board and excited.
The Actual “Doing” Part
Getting People Together
- I started by hitting up some friends, seeing who’d be into this crazy idea. Surprisingly, a bunch of them were game.
- Then we brainstormed events. What could we do that was “Taylor” themed? We came up with some silly stuff but also some real athletic challenges.
- We even made a rough schedule, thinking about how we could make it a weekend thing.
Making It “Official”
- I made a goofy little sign-up sheet, just to get an idea of who was serious about participating.
- We talked about maybe making some homemade medals, just for fun.
- Someone suggested we make a playlist of Taylor Swift songs to play during the events. Obviously, that was a must.
Where We Are Now
Right now, it’s still just a fun idea, but we’ve actually started doing some of the things we talked about. We’ve got a small group of people who are actually training a bit, and we’re going to have our first planning meeting next week. Who knows, maybe this Taylor Olympics thing will actually happen. It’s a long shot, but hey, it’s fun to dream big, right? And it all started with just a little curiosity and a lot of enthusiasm. It’s been a blast so far, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
