I looked at a few examples just to see how it’s used. It seems like golfista works for both male and female golfers. You’d just change the article before it – ‘el golfista’ for a man, ‘la golfista’ for a woman. That’s convenient, less to remember.
For plural, it just follows the normal rule, adding an ‘s’: ‘los golfistas’ or ‘las golfistas’.
