Okay, so, I’ve been itching to really push my Suzuki Burgman 650 to its limits. I mean, I bought this thing for a reason, right? It’s not just for cruising around town, although it does that beautifully. I wanted to see what this “luxury super-scoot” could really do on the open road.

I found a nice, long stretch of highway with minimal traffic early one morning. Perfect for letting the Burgman stretch its legs. I got the bike all warmed up, checked my tire pressure, and made sure I had a full tank of gas. All systems go.
I started off easy, gradually increasing the throttle. The Burgman’s 638cc engine is a beast, a real strong parallel twin. It’s got this smooth, almost electric, power delivery thanks to its automatic gearbox. I mean, it just pulls and pulls. I did notice it has a manual override and a sports mode, but for this, I just kept it in full auto to experience the normal drive mode.
As I got more comfortable, I started to push it harder. 70… 80… 90 mph. The Burgman handled it like a champ. No vibrations, no drama, just pure, smooth speed. And the wind protection on this thing is incredible. I was tucked in behind the windscreen, feeling like I was in a little speed bubble.
- Pushing Further: I held my nerve and kept the throttle pinned. The engine was putting out around 7000 RPM, probably close to its 54 bhp or 56.00 HP (40.9 kW). The digital speedometer just kept climbing. 100… 110… and then, finally, it topped out around 120 mph. Man, what a rush! It might even be able to touch higher on a perfect day with a downhill slope, but I felt like I found it’s natural limit.
- Stability at Speed: Even at that speed, the Burgman felt rock solid. I was impressed. It’s not a sportbike, but it’s definitely got the power and stability to handle high speeds with ease.
- Back to Reality: After a few minutes at top speed, I eased off the throttle and cruised back down to a more reasonable speed. I didn’t want to push my luck too much, and honestly, 120 mph is plenty fast for me.
I gotta say, this whole experience just confirmed why I love the Burgman 650. It’s not just a comfortable cruiser; it’s a real performer. And with proper service, it should be good for at least 100k miles, if not more.
Now, I know some folks might say that $3500 isn’t cheap for a used scoot, but you’re paying for quality and performance. And from my experience, the Burgman 650 is worth every penny.

Would I recommend taking your Burgman to 120 mph? Maybe not every day. But it’s good to know that it can if you need it to. This thing is a beast in disguise, and I’m glad I got to unleash it, at least once.
Post-Ride Thoughts
Honestly, after that ride, I have a whole new level of respect for the Burgman. It’s a well-engineered machine that delivers on its promise of luxury and performance. I am already planning my next adventure. Maybe a long road trip? This bike is definitely up for it.
