Okay, so today was all about the Shaw Charity Classic golf tournament. I’ve been meaning to get more involved in local charity events, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. I’m not a huge golfer, but hey, it’s for a good cause, right?

First things first, I had to figure out what this whole thing was about. A quick search online gave me some initial information, it’s a big golf tournament, part of some “PGA TOUR Champions” thing, and it raises a ton of money for kids’ charities in Alberta. Sounds pretty awesome.
Getting Ready
I started by, checking the tournament’s official website, to see dates, times, and ticket prices. Looked like it was a multi-day event, but I figured I’d just go for one day to test the waters. Tickets were easy enough to get online, so I grabbed one for Saturday.
Next up: figuring out what to wear. I mean, it’s a golf tournament, so I figured “business casual” was a safe bet. No jeans, no t-shirts. I dug out a decent pair of khakis and a polo shirt. Hopefully, I wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb.
The Big Day
Saturday morning, I headed out to the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. Got to see some pretty impressive golfing, though I couldn’t tell you who was who or what half the terms meant. “Birdie,” “bogey,” “eagle”…it was all a bit of a blur, to be honest. The important thing is that they were golfing for Charity.
But the golf was only part of it. There were all sorts of other things going on:

- Food stalls:I grabbed some lunch. Pretty standard fare.
- Charity booths: I learned a bit more about the specific charities that were benefiting from the event. Seemed very worthy.
- Crowd: lots of people, all ages, enjoying themselves.
Reflecting on the Experience
All in all, it was a pretty good day. I got some fresh air, saw some golf (even if I didn’t fully understand it), and felt good about supporting a good cause. Might even become a regular thing! It’s definitely a well-organized event, and the atmosphere was really positive. I spent a few hours there, and it felt like time well spent. I enjoyed learning more about the various charities supported, and it was eye-opening to see the community come together like that.
