Say Hit in Spanish: Quick Guide for Beginners (Audio)

Alright, so I wanted to figure out how to say “hit” in Spanish. You know, like, “hit the ball” or “a hit song.” It’s one of those words that seems simple but probably has a bunch of different ways to say it, depending on what you mean.

My Little “Hit” Experiment

First, I grabbed my phone and opened up a translation app. I typed in “hit” and, sure enough, a whole list of options popped up. “Golpear,” “pegar,” “acertar”… it was a bit overwhelming!

So, I decided to break it down. I started with the most basic one: hitting something physically, like a punch. For this, “golpear” seemed to be the most common suggestion. The app even gave me some example sentences, which was helpful. I practiced saying them out loud a few times – “El boxeador golpeó a su oponente” (The boxer hit his opponent). Felt pretty good!

Then I moved on to the idea of “hitting” a target, like in baseball or archery. Here, “acertar” seemed like the better fit. Again, I checked out the examples: “El arquero acertó en el blanco” (The archer hit the target). Makes sense, right?

Next up was the tricky one – “a hit song” or “a hit movie.” For this, the suggestions were a bit more varied. I saw “éxito” used a lot, which I already knew meant “success.” So, “una canción de éxito” would be “a hit song.” That seemed pretty straightforward.

I spent a good hour just playing around with different phrases and contexts. I even tried to write a few silly sentences of my own, just to get a feel for the words. For example and after my test, I can say, “The song ‘Despacito’ was a hit” in spanish is:

I am very satisfied and I think that I have got what I want.

It’s definitely not a perfect system, and I’m sure there are nuances I’m still missing. But hey, it’s a start! Now I can at least say a few different kinds of “hit” in Spanish without sounding like a total beginner. It is time to practice more!
