Ready for Freedom? Its Time to Address the Kind of Chain You Wish to Be Off

Okay, so today I wanted to talk about something that’s been on my mind lately, and it’s kind of a weird one, but stick with me. The idea is “kind of chain you wish to be off.” Now, when I first thought about this, I was like, what does that even mean? Chains? Am I in prison? No, thankfully, I’m not. But it got me thinking about the non-physical kind of chains.

Ready for Freedom? Its Time to Address the Kind of Chain You Wish to Be Off

So, I started digging around, you know, just Googling stuff and seeing what other people were saying about this. Turns out, it’s a thing! People talk about this in the context of like, the NYT Mini Crossword and stuff. It’s not about actual chains, but more about those things that hold you back, you know? The intangible stuff.

I stumbled upon this quote by, who was it, Nelson Mandela, yeah, that’s him! “To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains.” That’s deep man, really got me thinking. We all have something that we want to be free from, right?

My own struggle

  • Email chains: This is a big one for me. I get so many emails every day, and I feel like I have to respond to all of them right away. It’s like, I’m chained to my inbox!
  • Social media: Don’t even get me started on this one. It’s like a constant stream of information, and I feel like I have to keep up with it all. It’s exhausting!
  • Work, work, work: I love my job, I really do. But sometimes I feel like I’m always working. Like, even when I’m not at work, I’m thinking about work. It’s like I can never truly switch off.

Breaking free

So, how do we break free from these chains? I don’t have all the answers, but here’s what I’ve been trying:

  • Setting boundaries: I’ve started setting specific times to check my email and social media. And I try not to check them outside of those times. It’s hard, but it’s getting easier.
  • Taking breaks: I make sure to take breaks throughout the day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. I’ll get up, walk around, stretch, whatever. Just something to get me away from my desk and clear my head.
  • Doing things I enjoy: I know, this sounds obvious, but it’s easy to forget to do things you actually enjoy when you’re feeling overwhelmed. So, I’ve been making a conscious effort to do things that make me happy, like reading, hiking, spending time with my family.

It’s a process

It’s not easy, I’ll be honest. I still struggle with feeling chained to these things sometimes. But I think the important thing is to just keep trying, to keep working at it. It’s like building mental strength, you know? You have to practice mindfulness, self-reflection, and self-care. And it’s important to remember that every time when you don’t meditate about your ideas and actions, you may be trapped in the chains again.

Anyway, that’s my little rant for today. I hope it was helpful, or at least interesting. If you have any tips or tricks for breaking free from the chains that bind you, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear them.

Alright, I gotta go make dinner now. Talk to you guys later!
