Playing Madden on the Switch? Pro Tips and Tricks!

Okay, here’s my blog post about “Madden on the Switch,” written from a personal experience perspective, using simple HTML tags, and in a casual, conversational tone:

Playing Madden on the Switch? Pro Tips and Tricks!

Alright, so I finally caved and tried to get Madden running on my Nintendo Switch. I’d heard mixed things, mostly that it’s… well, not the best way to play the game. But I was curious, and I like playing games on my Switch, so I figured, why not?

The Experiment Begins

First, I checked the eShop. Yep, Madden NFL is there, although it is “Legacy Edition”.I grabbed the latest version (which, at the time of this experiment, was Madden NFL 24). I’d also read that it is a copy of Madden NFL 23, just with updated rosters and some minor tweaks. So, I wasn’t expecting a revolution. I was just hoping for some portable football fun.

The download was pretty big, so I left the Switch docked and went to make some coffee. Seriously, it took a while. Once it was done, I jumped into a quick exhibition game.

My First Impressions

  • Graphics: Okay, they’re not great. Definitely a step down from what you’d see on other consoles or a PC. The players look a bit… blocky, and the crowd is pretty basic. But hey, it’s the Switch. I wasn’t expecting miracles.
  • Gameplay: Surprisingly, it felt pretty good! The controls were responsive, and I was able to run plays, pass, and tackle without too much trouble. It felt like Madden, just… smaller.
  • Performance: Here’s where things got a little dicey. The game ran okay most of the time, but I did notice some slowdown, especially during busy moments with lots of players on screen. It wasn’t game-breaking, but it was noticeable.

Diving Deeper

I am surprised to find that most of the modes are present such as Kickoff and the Franchise model.

I spent a few hours playing through some franchise mode games. I tried to build my team, make trades, and all that usual stuff. It all worked, which was cool. I even managed to win a few games!

However, it is obviously that there are many modes that are missed such as “The Yard” and the “Superstar KO”

The Verdict

So, is Madden on the Switch worth it? It’s… complicated. If you only have a Switch and you really want to play Madden, it’s an option. It’s playable, and it’s definitely Madden. But if you have any other way to play it, I’d probably recommend going that route. The performance issues and downgraded graphics do take away from the experience.

For me, it was a fun experiment. I’ll probably keep it around for when I’m traveling and really need a football fix. But it’s not going to replace my other ways of playing Madden. It’s more like a “snack” version of the game – good in a pinch, but not the full meal deal.
