Okay, so, let’s talk about this character, Orianna, from the show Arcane. I got really into it and wanted to see if I could, you know, make her work in my own way. I’m not a programmer or anything, just a guy who likes to mess around with stuff.

First thing I did was watch a bunch of Arcane, like, a lot. I wanted to get a good feel for how Orianna moves, her whole vibe, you know? She’s this clockwork girl, all gears and precision, but also kinda graceful. It’s a cool mix.
Then, I started thinking about how to capture that. I messed around with some basic animation programs, trying to recreate some of her moves. It was rough, let me tell you. Lots of jerky movements and weird glitches. But hey, I was learning, right?
I figured I needed a better way to control the movements. So, I started playing around with this idea of using a physical model. I built this little, janky robot thing out of cardboard and some cheap motors. The idea was to map Orianna’s movements onto this robot, so I could see how she might actually work in the real world.
-
Watching the Show: I watched the show and pause it to see Orianna’s moves.
-
Basic Animation: I used some simple programs to try and bring her to life, digitally.
-
Building a Model: I made a janky physical model to understand how she could work.
-
Connecting the Dots: I tried to link my animations to my physical model, making it all move together.
Here’s what I tried:
It was a mess, honestly. Wires everywhere, cardboard falling apart, the robot barely moved. But I kept at it. I started adding more detail to the model, trying to get it closer to Orianna’s design. I even added some lights, just for fun.
Slowly but surely, things started to come together. The animations got smoother, the robot started to move more like Orianna. It wasn’t perfect, not even close, but it was something. It was my own little version of Orianna, and I was pretty proud of it.
I kept tweaking and refining, adding more details, trying to get it as close to the real Orianna as possible. I even started thinking about maybe 3D printing some parts, to make it more durable. But that’s a project for another day.

Anyway, that’s my Orianna story. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe I’ll keep working on it, maybe I’ll move on to something else. Who knows? But for now, I’ve got my own little clockwork girl, and that’s pretty cool.
