Mistake! Petrol into Diesel Car: What Happens and Can I Drive?

Okay, so the other day, I did something incredibly dumb. I’m still kicking myself for it, but hey, it makes for a good story, right? And maybe, just maybe, someone out there can learn from my mistake. I decided to record everything, it’s all about sharing experience.

Mistake! Petrol into Diesel Car: What Happens and Can I Drive?

It all started at the gas station. I was running late for a meeting, completely distracted, and I grabbed the wrong pump. Yep, I started pumping petrol into my diesel car.

The Uh-Oh Moment

I wasn’t even halfway through filling up when it hit me. That awful, sinking feeling. I stopped immediately, stared at the pump, and thought, “Oh, crap.” My brain was screaming. I did a quick check around to see if anyone saw and I moved fast.

Damage Control (or My Attempt At It)

  • Step 1: Don’t Start the Engine!: I knew this much at least. Starting the engine would be a disaster, pulling the petrol through the system. I was praying that I hadn’t done too much damage just by filling the tank.
  • Step 2: Ask for Help(Embarrassing):I went inside the station, completely mortified, and told the attendant what I’d done. The look on his face was a mixture of pity and “Seriously, dude?”.
  • Step 3: Call My Mechanic: I rang up my usual mechanic, explained the situation, and he basically told me I dodged a major bullet by not starting the engine. He said I needed to get the tank drained.
  • Step 4: Waiting…: The tow truck finally arrived. The whole process took forever, and I was just imagining my car exploding or something. I missed my meeting, obviously.

The Aftermath

The mechanic drained the tank, cleaned everything out, and gave me a stern lecture. I was seriously lucky. Apparently, if I’d started the engine, it could have been a total engine write-off. New fuel pump, injectors, the whole nine yards. Huge money. Now everything’s fine, but I will never grab the wrong pump in petrol station, never!

So, the moral of the story? Pay attention at the pump! And if you do mess up, don’t panic, don’t start the engine, and call for help immediately. It’s an embarrassing mistake, but it’s definitely one I won’t be making again. Hope someone can be careful after read my experience.
