Mike Cutting for You:Best Ways, Easy to start.

Okay, so today I tried out this “mike cutting” thing. It’s basically about slicing up audio, right? I’ve got some experience recording my own voice for some simple narration, but my editing is pretty rough. So I thought, let’s see if I can get better at this.

Mike Cutting for You:Best Ways, Easy to start.

First, I grabbed my microphone—nothing fancy, just a basic USB mic I got on sale a while back. I needed something to record, so I just read out a random paragraph from a book I had lying around. It was some sci-fi thing, lots of weird names. The recording was, you know, just okay. I had some “ums” and “ahs,” and a couple of times I stumbled over my words.

Chopping It Up

Next, I opened up my audio editor. I used Audacity which I’d used *’s free, so that’s a plus. I imported the recording and stared at the waveform. It looked like a bunch of squiggly lines, and honestly, I felt a little lost.

  • I zoomed in a bit so I could see the individual sections of the audio better.
  • Then, I started playing it back, bit by bit, trying to find those awkward pauses and mess-ups.
  • When I found one, I highlighted the section I didn’t want.
  • Then, it was just a matter of hitting the delete key. Boom, gone!

I kept doing this, going through the whole recording, snipping out the bad parts. It was kind of tedious, to be honest. But, I started to get the hang of it. I could see where I was pausing too long, or where I’d coughed or made a weird noise. It was like learning a new language, almost. You start to recognize the patterns.

The End Result?

After I was done, I played the whole thing back. It was definitely better! Smoother, more professional-sounding, even though I’m no voice actor. I’d managed to cut out most of the obvious mistakes. There were still a couple of spots that weren’t perfect, but hey, it was a huge improvement.

So, that’s my “mike cutting” adventure for today. It wasn’t exactly rocket science, but it was a good learning experience. I’ll probably keep practicing, maybe try recording something a little longer next time. I will definetly be better with some practice!
