Okay, so today I decided to give this “max basing tennis” thing a shot. I’d heard about it, seen some stuff online, and figured, why not? Let’s see what all the fuss is about.

Getting Started

First, I needed to, you know, actually figure out what max basing even is. Turns out, it’s all about hitting the ball as hard and deep as you possibly can, aiming for those baseline corners. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong!

I grabbed my racket, a bucket of balls, and headed to the court. My first few swings? Let’s just say they weren’t exactly “max” anything. More like “min” effort, “mid” placement.

The Grind

I started by just trying to really focus on my swing. I kept telling myself, “Power, depth, power, depth.” I tried to visualize hitting through the ball, driving it all the way to the other end of the court.

  • Forehands first: I started with my forehand, because, well, it’s my stronger side. I lined up, swung, and… shanked it. Okay, maybe not the best start. I tried again, focusing on a bigger swing, more follow-through. Boom! That felt better. Still not perfect, but better.
  • Backhand blues: Then came the backhand. Ugh. My backhand is… a work in progress, to put it nicely. I knew this was going to be tough. I focused on keeping my eye on the ball, trying to get my body weight behind the shot. First few were weak, short, you name it. But then, slowly, I started to get a feel for it. A few even landed deep! Small victories, people.

The Struggle is Real

This whole “max basing” thing is way harder than it looks. It’s not just about swinging hard; it’s about control, too. You have to hit the ball hard and keep it in the court. Easier said than done. My arms started to feel like jelly, and my legs were burning. I must have hit a hundred balls, and maybe, maybe a dozen were actually good max basing shots.

Baby Steps

By the end of my session, I was exhausted, sweaty, and slightly frustrated. But I also felt like I’d accomplished something. I didn’t magically transform into a max basing pro, but I definitely improved. I started to get a better feel for the power and depth needed. I even managed to hit a few shots that I was genuinely proud of.

So, will I keep at it? Yeah, I think so. It’s a challenge, but it’s also kind of fun. Plus, who doesn’t want to crush the ball like a pro? I’m definitely not there yet, but hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a killer tennis game. This “max basing” journey has just begun.
