Today, I headed out to the park to get some practice in with my tennis racket. I don’t have a partner to play with all the time, so the wall becomes my trusty opponent. It’s a classic way to work on your strokes and consistency, and honestly, it’s pretty fun.

Getting Started
First things first, I found a good, solid wall. Not all walls are created equal, you know? Some have weird textures or aren’t very tall. I needed one that was smooth and high enough so I wouldn’t be sending balls flying over it all the time.
I started with some simple forehands. Just getting the feel of the ball, making sure my grip was right, and focusing on a smooth swing. Nothing fancy, just trying to hit the ball cleanly and consistently against the wall.
Working on Backhands
After a while, I switched to backhands. These are definitely my weaker side, so I spent extra time on them. I really focused on my footwork, trying to get into position quickly and keeping my eye on the ball. The wall doesn’t wait for you, so you have to be ready!
Adding Some Variety
- I started mixing in some volleys, moving closer to the wall and trying to react quickly.
- Then I practiced some overheads, tossing the ball up and smashing it against the wall.
- It’s tough to get the timing right, but it’s a good way to work on that aggressive shot.
Keeping it Going
I spent a good hour just hitting against the wall. I tried to keep my feet moving, staying light and on my toes. It’s a great workout, and it really helps you develop a rhythm.
By the end, I was definitely feeling it. My arm was tired, and I was sweating, but it was a good kind of tired. It’s satisfying to see yourself improve, even if it’s just you and the wall.

It is really helped to see how consisten I mastered in my hit skills.
