Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my golf swing, specifically trying to get those “low hands” I keep hearing about. Figured I’d share my little experiment, ’cause it’s been… interesting.

The Start – High and Mighty
First off, my natural swing always felt kinda “up.” Like, I was reaching for the sky at the top. I started by just hitting balls like I normally do, just to get a baseline. I filmed a few swings from the side to really see what was going on.
Getting Lower – Feeling Awkward
Then came the hard part – actually trying to lower my hands. I watched some videos online, saw some slow-mos of pros. Seemed simple enough, right? Wrong. I tried to consciously keep my hands lower on the backswing, but it felt so weird. Like I was tying myself in knots. The first few swings? Total shanks. I felt like I had zero control.
The “Aha!” Moment (Maybe?)
I kept at it, though. And I think I figured something out. It’s not just about dropping your hands. I realized I needed to change my whole posture a bit, bending a little more from the hips, I felt less like I was standing straight up. And, I focused more on turning my body, not just lifting my arms.
- Bend at the hips more.
- Turn the body, don’t just lift.
- Keep my wrists more ‘flat’ on the backswing.
The Results – Still a Work in Progress
So, am I hitting like a pro now? Nope. Not even close. But… I am seeing some improvement. My shots are a little more consistent. I can feel more power, even though it feels like I’m swinging “easier.” I’ve even noticed my divots are a bit shallower, which I’m told is a good thing.
I’m still filming my swings and comparing. It’s definitely a process. One thing’s for sure: this “low hands” thing isn’t as easy as it looks, but I think I’m on the right track.
