Recently, I stumbled upon the name “John Podres” and felt intrigued. So I decided to dive in and see what this guy was all about.

First thing I did was hit up the search engines. It turns out this Podres guy was a baseball player, a pitcher to be exact. Played way back in the 50s and 60s, which is way before my time, but still, pretty cool.
So, I dug deeper. Found out he played for a few teams, but mostly for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Now, I’m no baseball historian, but even I know that’s a big deal. This guy must’ve been pretty good, right?
- Checked out his stats next. He had some decent numbers, especially in the World Series. I mean, the guy was 3-1 in six World Series games. That’s pretty impressive, even for someone like me who’s not a huge baseball fanatic.
- Then I found out about this 1955 World Series. Apparently, Podres was a major player in that one. He won two games, including the final game where he didn’t let the other team score at all! That’s what they call a “shutout.”
- Because of his performance in that series, he got named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). I read that it was the first time they ever gave out that award in the World Series. That’s a pretty big honor, I’d say.
I kept reading and found out some more interesting stuff. Like how the Dodgers were down two games at the start of the series but came back to win. That’s a rare thing, and Podres was a big part of that comeback.
Turns out, this John Podres guy was a bit of a legend. He even got into some Hall of Fame and is remembered as a hero by Dodgers fans. After reading all this, I can see why.
After I gathered all this information, I felt like I had a pretty good picture of who John Podres was. It was like putting together a puzzle, piece by piece.

Finally, I organized all my notes and wrote them down. It felt good to learn about someone new and understand a little bit more about baseball history. This whole process was a fun little adventure, and I’m glad I took the time to do it.
