Is Hubbard Golf Course Hill AFB open for civilians? Find out access rules and policies.

So, I finally got around to playing a round at Hubbard Golf Course over on Hill AFB the other day. Been meaning to check it out for a while, heard some decent things, especially about playing on a military base course.

Getting There and Settled In

Getting onto the base wasn’t too bad, just had to show my ID at the gate, standard procedure stuff. Found the golf course pretty easily once I was inside. The parking lot was decent, not too crowded when I arrived mid-morning.

Walked into the pro shop, a pretty straightforward place. The fella behind the counter was friendly enough, got me checked in quick. Paid my green fee and grabbed a cart key. Didn’t spend much time looking around the shop, just wanted to get out there.

Hitting the Course

Rolled up to the first tee. The course looked like it was in okay shape. Not gonna lie, it wasn’t Augusta National or anything, but the fairways seemed reasonably maintained, and the tee boxes were alright. Looked like a pretty traditional layout, mostly flat with some mature trees lining the fairways.

My first few drives were… well, let’s just say they found grass. Started getting into a bit of a rhythm after a few holes. The pace of play was actually pretty good, didn’t feel rushed or stuck waiting too much, which was nice.

What I noticed:

  • The greens were a bit inconsistent. Some rolled true, others were a little bumpy or slow. You just had to adjust.
  • Fairways were generally fine, but there were some thin spots here and there.
  • The rough wasn’t super penal, which helped my score, haha.
  • It’s definitely got that ‘military base course’ vibe – functional, not overly fancy, but gets the job done.

There were a couple of holes that were kind of interesting, maybe a dogleg here or a slightly elevated green there, but mostly pretty straight shooting. Didn’t have any spectacular shots, didn’t have any total meltdowns either, just a steady kind of round.

Wrapping Up

Finished up the round, dropped the cart off. Didn’t hang around the clubhouse much afterwards, just headed out. Overall, it was a decent experience. It’s a solid, playable course if you’re in the area or have access to the base. Nothing spectacular, but a perfectly fine place to knock the ball around for a few hours. Felt like I got what I expected – a straightforward round of golf on a military installation.

Would I go back? Yeah, probably. It’s convenient if you’re nearby, and it served its purpose for a casual day out on the course.
