Okay, so “true blood andy” – sounds simple, right? I thought so too, until I dove in. I’m a huge True Blood fan, and I wanted to create something, I didn’t know, to show my appreciation. It started with just wanting a little Andy Bellefleur appreciation post.
First, I brainstormed. What did I even want to do? A drawing? A video? A simple text post? My initial idea was a compilation of his best moments, but finding good quality clips felt like searching for a needle in a haystack.
The Hunt Begins
I spent a good few hours just rewatching episodes, jotting down timestamps of scenes I liked. It became clear, I was not prepared, I love the show, but not enough to find everything by hand.
- Season 2, Episode 5 – the whole “fairy” debacle.
- Season 3, when he’s dealing with the V addiction.
- And of course, his whole relationship arc.
My notes were a mess. I kept getting distracted and just enjoying the show instead of, you know, actually working on my project.
The Editing Nightmare
Then I decided to make a video compilation. I had never edit before, so I downloaded some free video editing software, and got to work. I managed to assemble something, but, wow, that first draft was rough. The transitions were clunky, the music was all wrong, and it was way too long. That first draft was my learning experience.
Giving up on the video idea
I considered scrapping the whole thing. My skills were trash and the time I had spent was enough. I decided to change for a writting format instead.
The Writing Process
I outlined my main points – what I loved about Andy, how he’d grown as a character, his best quotes. I wrote a first draft, hated it, rewrote it, hated it slightly less, and kept tweaking it.
Honestly, the biggest challenge was just getting my feelings about the character. I wanted it to be personal, not just a rehash of what everyone already knows.
Finally I did it, it’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it’s a genuine expression of my appreciation. I learned a lot.
