Trying Out the Kawhi Braids
Alright, so I decided I wanted to get those braids, you know, the ones Kawhi Leonard rocks. Saw them around, thought they looked pretty clean. It wasn’t like I just woke up and did it, took some thinking.
First thing, I had to figure out who could actually do this style right. Can’t just trust anyone with your hair, especially for something specific like cornrows. I asked a couple of buddies, looked up some local braiders. Found someone who seemed legit, their work looked solid from pictures I saw.
Made the call, set up a time. Had to grow my hair out a bit beforehand, make sure there was enough length to actually braid. Showed up for the appointment. The braider took a look, nodded, seemed like they knew exactly what I was asking for. Good start.
Then the process began. They started by washing my hair, getting it clean and ready. Felt pretty standard. After that, they started sectioning my hair off. This part took some time, making sure all the parts were straight and even. Precision seemed key here.
Then came the actual braiding. Man, this is where you gotta settle in. It takes a while. They started braiding each section, tight to the scalp. Pulling and weaving, row after row. It wasn’t painful, but you definitely feel the tightness. Sat there for, I don’t know, felt like a couple of hours at least. Listened to some music, tried not to fidget too much.
Here’s basically how it went down:

- Hair wash and condition.
- Careful sectioning of the hair into rows.
- The braiding itself, piece by piece, keeping it tight.
- Making sure the braids were uniform and going straight back.
- A little bit of product at the end, maybe some oil or something.
You just gotta be patient through it all. Sitting in that chair takes some endurance, not gonna lie. My neck was a little stiff afterwards. But when they finished up and I finally got a look in the mirror, yeah, it was worth it. Looked sharp, clean lines. Exactly the style I went in for. Took a day or two to get used to the feeling, especially sleeping, but overall, pretty happy with how it turned out. That was my journey getting the Kawhi braids.
