Okay, so I wanted to try drawing Steve from Minecraft. I’m no artist, but I figured, how hard could it be? It’s all blocks, right? Famous last words.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. I thought about using a ruler, but then I was like, “Nah, let’s keep it organic,” which is code for “I’m too lazy to find a ruler.”
The Head
I started with the head. Since Steve’s head is basically a cube, I drew a square. It looked… okay. A little wobbly, but I figured I could fix it later. I added another square behind it and connected the lines to form the 3D effect. A bit wonky but i moved on.
The Body
Next up, the body. Another rectangle, longer than the head-square. I tried to make it proportional, but it ended up looking a bit like Steve had been hitting the gym… or maybe just eating too many pixelated pork chops. I drew a line to do the side, to make it look 3D, I guess.
The Arms and Legs
- Arms: More rectangles, attached to the sides of the body-rectangle. I made them kinda skinny. They looked a bit like sticks.
- Legs: Basically the same as the arms, but attached to the bottom of the body. I drew two long retangles.
The Face
This is where things got tricky. I mean, Steve’s face is pretty simple, but getting those pixelated eyes and that little beard-thing just right? Tougher than it looks. I erased a lot. A LOT. Finally, I settled for something that vaguely resembled a face. It wasn’t pretty, but it was recognizable as… something human-ish.

Coloring It In
I didn’t have any fancy markers, so I just used some colored pencils I found lying around. I went with the classic blue shirt, purple pants, and brown hair. The coloring definitely helped. It hid some of my shaky lines.
The Final Result
So, there it is, my attempt at drawing Steve. It’s not going to win any awards, but hey, I did it. It actually kinda looks like him, if you squint and maybe tilt your head a little. I might try drawing a Creeper next. Or maybe not. Those things are terrifying, even in pixel form.
