Okay, let’s talk about getting the height right for my little project, the ‘todoni’ thing I built.

My Struggle with the Todoni Height
So, I was getting this ache in my neck. Staring at the screen all day, you know how it is. Figured I needed to lift the monitor up a bit. Decided to make a simple stand myself, just a basic thing. Called it my ‘todoni’ for lack of a better name.
First thing, I measured everything. My desk, the monitor base, where my eyes naturally landed when I sat straight. Seemed simple enough. Got a number, thought, “Okay, this is the magic height for the todoni.” Felt pretty confident about it.
Went and got some scrap wood I had lying around. Measured twice, cut once, all that stuff. Put the pieces together. It wasn’t fancy, but it looked sturdy enough. The height was exactly what I calculated. Perfect, right?
Wrong.
Put the todoni on the desk, placed the monitor on top. Looked alright. Then I actually sat down to work. Immediately felt… off. It wasn’t comfortable at all. Maybe it was too high now? Or my initial measurement was just plain wrong? Super frustrating. All that effort, and it still wasn’t right.

Realized my mistake. Measuring things statically isn’t the same as actually using it. Your posture changes, how you lean in, all that. So, I ditched the ruler for a bit. Grabbed a stack of books. Put the monitor on top, added a book, took one away, shuffled them around until it felt genuinely comfortable while I was sitting like I normally do.
Found the real sweet spot that way. It was actually a bit lower than my original calculation. Figures.
So, the annoying part. Had to basically fix the todoni. Took it apart slightly, marked the new height based on my book-stack experiment, and trimmed the legs down. Put it back together. A bit of rework I didn’t plan for.
Finally, put the monitor back on the adjusted todoni. Sat down. Ahh, much better. The height was finally spot on. Took more trial and error than I expected. Just measuring wasn’t enough. You really gotta test these things in the real situation. The todoni height saga is over, thankfully.
