So, I decided to finally tackle that “hockey goal” project I’ve been putting off. You know, the one where I wanted to build a miniature hockey goal for my basement? Yeah, that one.

First, I gathered all my materials. I had some old PVC pipes lying around from a previous plumbing mishap (don’t ask), and I figured they’d be perfect for the frame. I also grabbed some netting I found at a garage sale – score! – and a bunch of zip ties. Because, let’s be honest, zip ties fix everything.
The Build
- I started by cutting the PVC pipes to size. Let me tell you, using a hacksaw is way harder than it looks in those DIY videos. My cuts were… let’s just say “rustic.”
- Next, I assembled the frame. It was basically a rectangle with a couple of extra supports. I used PVC cement to glue the joints together, and I may have gone a little overboard. That stuff is potent!
- Then came the netting. This was the trickiest part. I tried draping it over the frame, but it kept slipping. I ended up using a ton of zip ties to secure it, and it looked… well, it looked functional. Artistic? Not so much.
I used more zip ties. So many of them. It’s not going to win any beauty contests, but it does hold.
Finally, I tested it out. I grabbed a foam puck (safety first, people!) and took a few shots. The goal held up! It wobbled a bit, but hey, it didn’t collapse. Success!
It’s not perfect, but I built it myself, and that’s what matters. Now I can practice my slap shots in the basement without breaking any windows. My wife is thrilled… I think.
