Hey everyone, today I wanna talk about Geovany Soto, the former catcher for the Chicago Cubs. This guy’s story is pretty interesting, so stick around!

Geovany Soto Cubs: What happened to the former all-star catcher?

I first started digging into this because I heard someone mention Soto the other day, and it made me curious. I remembered he was a big deal back in the day, but I didn’t know much about his career. So, I dove into some research. Turns out, Soto was born in Puerto Rico in 1983 and he spent 13 seasons in Major League Baseball. That’s a solid career!

The Rookie Sensation

What really caught my eye was that Soto was drafted by the Chicago Cubs way back in 2001. He worked his way up through the minor leagues, and then, boom! In 2008, he exploded onto the scene.

  • He became the Cubs’ starting catcher.
  • He made the All-Star team.
  • And get this – he won the National League Rookie of the Year award!

That’s a heck of a rookie season, right? I can only imagine how exciting that must have been for him and Cubs fans. I read somewhere that he’s considered one of the best Cubs catchers in a long time. A combination of offense and defense, this man seems has it all.

From Cubs to Beyond

Soto stayed with the Cubs for a few more years. Apparently, he even hired a personal trainer to improve his game. Eventually, though, he moved on to play for some other teams, like the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics. He’s not playing anymore, but he definitely left his mark on the game.

What I learned

Looking into Soto’s career was a fun little trip down memory lane. It’s always cool to learn about these guys who made it to the big leagues and had some real success. Plus, it reminded me how much I enjoy baseball and all the stories that come with it.
