So, I’ve been keeping an eye on this horse, Fierceness. Yeah, the one that everyone’s talking about for the Kentucky Derby. This horse is something else, I gotta tell you. I started following him after that crazy win at the Florida Derby. I mean, he didn’t just win, he smashed the record!

That got me digging deeper. Turns out, this horse was already a big deal last year, winning the Eclipse Award as the top 2-year-old male. That’s like the horse racing version of being named MVP as a rookie. Impressive, right?
So I joined this Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool, just for kicks. And guess what? Fierceness was the strong favorite. Everyone was betting on him. I was feeling pretty good about my chances. I researched his post position for the Derby, and he drew number 17. Not the best, but hey, it’s a long race.
Then I found out he’s got 136 points in this “Road to the Kentucky Derby” thing. I’m still not sure exactly how that works, but it sounds important. Apparently, he got a bunch of those points from winning the Florida Derby. They gave him 100 points for that one! It’s like getting a perfect score on a test.
I kept reading and found out that Fierceness had won three out of five races, and he had this thing called an “Equibase Speed Score” of 110, twice! I’m no expert, but that sounds pretty darn fast to me. The odds were looking good, he was the 5-2 favorite in the morning line.
And then, the race itself. I watched with bated breath, hoping all this research would pay off.

- The Start: Fierceness didn’t have the best start, but he found his stride.
- Mid-Race: He held his own, staying in the middle of the pack. It was tense, I’m not gonna lie.
- The Turn: As they entered the final turn, I was on the edge of my seat.
- The Finish: And then… well, he ended up 15th. 15th! Not what I expected at all.
All that hype, all that potential, and he finished 15th. I was bummed, I won’t lie. It just goes to show, you can do all the research in the world, but in horse racing, anything can happen.
But you know what? I’m not giving up on Fierceness. He’s still a champion in my book. This race doesn’t define him. He’s got that fire, that spirit. I’m sure he’ll bounce back. I’ll be watching his next race, that’s for sure. Who knows, maybe he’ll surprise us all again. He’s already made history as the first horse in 45 years to win from his post position. Maybe next time he’ll make history in an even bigger way. That’s the beauty of sports, right? There’s always a next time.
