Alright, let me tell you about my little experiment with “tanking” in the game. I’ve been playing this game for a while, and I heard some folks talking about how losing on purpose at the start could get you into easier matches later. It’s called “tanking” your first few matches. I was a bit skeptical, but hey, why not give it a shot, right?

So, I jumped into those first two matches, and I gotta say, it felt weird not trying to win. I just kind of ran around, didn’t really shoot anyone, and let the other team take me out. My teammates were probably wondering what the heck I was doing, but I had a plan, or at least I thought I did.
I did this for the first two matches, and my stats were terrible. I mean, really bad. But that was the point, I guess. After that, I started playing normally, trying to win like I usually do.
Did it actually work?
Well, here’s the interesting part. After those two intentional losses, I did seem to end up in matches that felt a bit easier. The other players didn’t seem as skilled, and I was able to rack up some wins pretty quickly. My kill/death ratio started to climb back up, and I was having more fun. It actually felt like I was able to practice some of the new moves I’d been trying to learn.
- Match 1: Went 0-15. Felt bad, man.
- Match 2: Ended up 2-17. Still terrible, but I got a couple of lucky shots in.
- Match 3: Back to normal playing, and I went 12-5! It felt great.
- Match 4: Another win, 15-8. Definitely felt easier than usual.
- Match 5: Kept the streak going, 18-6. I was on fire!
Now, I can’t say for sure that tanking those first two matches was the only reason things got easier. Maybe it was just a coincidence, or maybe the game’s matchmaking system just decided to give me a break. But it sure felt like it made a difference. Some people say that the game uses SBMM (skill-based matchmaking) so when you have some really rough games, it starts placing you with people closer to your skill, or lack thereof as in my case.
I know some people are against this whole “tanking” thing, and I get it. It’s not exactly fair to your teammates in those first few games. But I was curious, and I wanted to see if it actually worked. And from my experience, it kind of did.

I’m not saying everyone should go out and tank their matches. But if you’re feeling frustrated and want to try something different, it might be worth a shot. Just be prepared for some weird looks from your teammates in those first couple of games.
Oh, and there were also rumors that buying stuff from the store will put you in easier lobbies for a short time, maybe I should try that next time.
This is what I did and saw, do with that information what you will, just sharing my experience, maybe it will help someone, who knows.
