Alright, so I wanted to catch the Knicks game the other night, right? Figured it would be simple. Hah! First thing I did was look up the game time – it was set for 8:00 p.m. ET at the Paycom Center. They were playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which meant an away game for the Knicks. So, I started scrambling to figure out how to watch it.
My first thought was, “Okay, I’ll just stream it.” Seemed easy enough. I checked out a couple of the usual streaming services. Found out that DirecTV Stream and fuboTV had the MSG Networks in their plans. Bingo! Both of them offer free trials, too, which is pretty sweet. I decided to sign up for a trial of fuboTV since it was the quickest option.
Finding a Free Trial
- Signed up for a free trial of fuboTV.
- Made sure the plan included MSG Networks.
Then, there’s this thing called the MSG GO app. With this, you can also apparently watch the Knicks games live, but you gotta have a subscription with a provider that includes MSG Networks. Since I already signed up for fuboTV, I figured I was covered.
Now, if you’re outside of New York, things get a bit trickier. You could use the NBA League Pass, but that’s an extra cost. It’s great if you’re not in the New York area because it lets you see all the out-of-market games. But I’m in New York, so I didn’t need that.
Setting Up the Stream
- Downloaded the fuboTV app on my smart TV.
- Logged in using the trial account I just created.
- Navigated to the MSG channel just before the game started.
I also learned that YouTubeTV doesn’t carry the MSG Network. So, that was a no-go. I guess not all streaming services are created equal, especially when it comes to sports.
Anyway, game time rolled around, and there I was, all set up with my fuboTV trial, watching the Knicks on MSG. It felt like a bit of a hassle at first, but once I got it all figured out, it was smooth sailing. Got to see Mike Breen and Walt Frazier do their thing, which is always a treat. No official schedule for the 2024-25 games yet, but I’m keeping an eye out.
