Okay, so the other day, I had to deal with my car’s brakes. They were making this awful squealing noise, and I knew it was time to check the brake pads. I’m no mechanic, but I like to do some basic maintenance myself. So, I figured, “Why not learn about the different types of brake pads out there?”

First, I watched some videos and read a few articles online. I wanted to get a feel for what I was getting myself into. Then, I started looking at the different materials brake pads are made from.
Different Types of Brake Pads I Found
- Organic: Apparently, these are the quietest ones, but they wear out faster. That means more brake dust. Made with things like fiber, rubber.
- Semi-Metallic: These seem to be the most common. A mix of metal (like steel or copper) and other stuff. They’re noisy.
- Ceramic: The videos said these are the best. They’re quiet, last a long time, and don’t create much dust. But, they’re also the most expensive. They used ceramic fibers and other stuff.
After I gathered all this info, I went to the local auto parts store. I talked to the guy there, and he confirmed pretty much everything I had learned. He showed me examples of each type, and I could see the difference in the materials.
I ended up choosing the ceramic brake pads. Even though they were more expensive, I figured it was worth it for the better performance and longer life. Plus, I really hate that squealing noise!
Finally, I installed the new brake pads. It took me a while, and I definitely got my hands dirty, but it was a good learning experience. Now, my brakes are nice and quiet, and I feel good knowing I did it myself!
