Okay, so I’ve been wrenching on this 1991 BMW K100RS. It’s a beast of a bike, and I wanted to share my experience getting it running smoothly.

First thing I tackled was the fuel system. This bike had been sitting for a while, so I figured the injectors were probably gummed up. I pulled them out, and yep, they were pretty nasty.
- Soaked the injectors in carb cleaner overnight.
- Used a small wire to make sure all the little passages were clear.
- Replaced the fuel filter – that thing was ancient!
Next up, I moved onto the electrical system. The battery was toast, so a new one was a no-brainer. I also checked all the connections, cleaned up any corrosion I found, and made sure everything was tight.
Engine Time
With the fuel and electrical systems sorted, I turned my attention to the engine. I changed the oil and filter, of course. Then I checked the valve clearances. They were a little off, so I adjusted them to spec.
I also replaced the spark plugs, new air filter in, and while I was in there, I synced the throttle bodies. That’s a bit of a fiddly job, but it makes a big difference in how smoothly the engine runs.
Finally, I put everything back together, filled it up with fresh fluids, and hit the starter button. It fired right up and purred like a kitten! Well, maybe a big, powerful kitten.

It’s been a fun project, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. There’s just something satisfying about bringing an old bike back to life.
