Okay, so I decided to level up my Blacksmithing in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. I’d heard it was a good profession for making gold, and who doesn’t need more gold, right? So I jumped in, totally clueless, but figured it out as I went. Here’s how it all went down.

Getting Started (1-300)
First things first, I had to get the basics down. I went to a Blacksmithing trainer in one of the starting zones. And I’m started, I picked up Mining too, since you need ore for, well, everything. I spent a ridiculous amount of time running around, mining copper, and then smelting it into bars.
My early creations were pretty lame. I made a ton of:
- Rough Stone– Who knew I’d need so many of these?
- Copper Rod– Seemed important at the time.
- Rough Grinding Stone– More stones, yay!
- Coarse Grinding Stone-Seriously, so many stones in each level.
I just kept crafting whatever the trainer told me to, slowly inching my way up the skill levels. I think I made like a hundred Rough Grinding Stones. It was mind-numbing, but hey, gotta start somewhere.
Outland Adventures (300-350)
Once I hit 300, I blasted through the Dark Portal and headed to Outland. New trainer, new materials, new levels of grinding! I swapped to Fel Iron, which was thankfully a bit more interesting than copper. I also made some better to used:
- Fel Iron Rod – Of course, a new rod.
- Fel Weightstone -This was good for me!
- Fel Iron Shield Spike – Seems like useful.
Northrend Bound (350-450)
Finally, I hit Northrend! This is where things got a little more exciting. I was using Cobalt, which felt way more powerful than the previous ores. I followed my guide to the letter to get the most efficiency with:

- Cobalt Rod– Back at it with the rods!
- Cobalt Triangle Shield– This looked pretty cool.
- Spiked Cobalt Boots-I’m made something I could actually wear!
I hit 450! My Blacksmithing was maxed out for now. I felt a real sense of accomplishment, even though my bags were overflowing with random materials and I was probably broke from buying extra ore on the Auction House.
So, that’s my Blacksmithing leveling journey. It was long, sometimes boring, but ultimately rewarding. Now I can craft some decent gear, and hopefully, make some of that sweet, sweet gold I was aiming for! My next big project is to use the skills I acquired to make some useful items, which should be great!
