Calum Scotts Golfing Secrets: What You Need to Know

A Day on the Green with Calum Scott

Okay, so I had this idea the other day. I was heading out for a round of golf, just a casual practice session by myself. Usually, I like it quiet, you know, just the sound of the birds and the thwack of the ball. But I was thinking, maybe some music could change things up? I dunno, just trying something new.

So, I grabbed my clubs, loaded up the car, and headed to the course. While I was warming up on the driving range, I remembered I had a bunch of Calum Scott songs saved on my phone. I like his stuff, got a good voice, quite chilled out sometimes, emotional other times. Thought maybe it’d be a good fit for golf. Not too distracting, maybe?

Getting Started

Got to the first tee. Popped in one earbud, kept the volume low. Didn’t want to be that guy completely oblivious to everything around him. Queued up ‘You Are The Reason’. Bit slow for a tee shot maybe, but whatever, let’s see how this goes.

Took my first swing. Honestly? Didn’t notice the music much. Too focused on not slicing it into the woods like I usually do. The ball went… okay. Not great, not terrible. Walked down the fairway, music playing softly.

As I got into the round, maybe around the 4th or 5th hole, I started noticing the music more. His song ‘Dancing On My Own’ came on. Bit more upbeat. Found myself kinda nodding along while lining up a putt. Did it help? Hard to say. I missed the putt. Maybe it was a bit distracting after all?

I tried skipping tracks a bit. Some faster ones felt weird during the slow pace of walking or setting up a shot. The slower, more acoustic stuff seemed to fit better. It was like having a mellow soundtrack to my inconsistent golf game.

  • Putting: Music felt a bit intrusive here. Need quiet to concentrate.
  • Driving: Didn’t really notice it, concentration was elsewhere.
  • Walking between shots: This was actually nice. Filled the silence a bit.

Final Thoughts

Finished the round. Score was pretty average for me, maybe a couple of shots worse than usual, but who’s counting on a practice day? Taking the earbud out felt strange, like the world suddenly got very quiet.

So, Calum Scott and golf? Was it a game-changer? Nah, not really. It was just… different. Nice for walking, maybe less so for the actual shots, especially putting. It didn’t magically improve my game (obviously), and sometimes it broke my focus a little.

Will I do it again? Maybe occasionally, on a solo practice day when I feel like it. But I think for serious rounds, or when playing with others, I’ll stick to just the sounds of the course. It was an interesting little experiment though, glad I tried it. Just another day trying things out.
