Okay, so the other day, I was trying to figure out the time difference between California and the Philippines. I had a call scheduled with my friend who lives in Manila, and I needed to make sure I didn’t call her up in the middle of the night.

First, I did what anyone would do and googled “California time to Philippine time.” I found a bunch of websites that had time zone converters, which was a good start. It turns out, that the Philippines is way ahead of California in terms of time.
Here’s what I figured out:
- California is on Pacific Standard Time (PST) or Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), depending on the time of year.
- The Philippines only has one time zone, and it’s called Philippine Standard Time (PST).
Next, I learned that the time difference is pretty significant. The Philippines is 16 hours ahead of California during PST and 15 hours ahead during PDT. This means that when it’s noon in California, it’s already 4 AM the next day in the Philippines during PST!
So, I used one of those online calculators to convert the time I had in mind for the call, which was 1:30 PM my time in Los Angeles. The converter told me that it would be 5:30 AM in Manila. Not too bad! I could make that work.
After that, I dug a little deeper and found out that during Daylight Saving Time in California (PDT), the difference is only 15 hours. It’s good to keep in mind if you’re planning calls or meetings across these time zones.

My Notes
- Remembered that when it’s 11:00 AM in Los Angeles, it’s 3:00 AM in Manila.
- Noted that Central Standard Time is 14 hours behind Philippine Standard Time.
- Wrote down that the Philippines is always ahead, so I needed to add hours to my time to get their time.
In the end, I successfully scheduled my call without accidentally waking up my friend. These time zone differences can be a real headache, but with a little research and some simple tools, you can figure it all out. It’s always a good idea to double-check your calculations, though, just to be on the safe side!
