Alright folks, buckle up, because I’m about to spill the tea on my deep dive into Brian Harman’s WITB (What’s In The Bag). You know, the guy who absolutely crushed it at the Open Championship? I got curious, like, REALLY curious, about what clubs he was swinging. So, I went on a mission.

First things first, I hit up Google. Started digging through articles, forum posts, anything I could find listing his gear. Saw a lot of conflicting info, which is super annoying, so I had to cross-reference everything. Kinda felt like a detective, haha.
- Driver: Titleist TSi3 (9 degrees)
- Fairway Wood: Titleist TS2 (13.5 degrees)
- Irons: Titleist 620 CB (3-PW)
- Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM9 (50-08F, 54-10S), Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks (60T)
- Putter: TaylorMade TP Hydro Blast Soto
- Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Okay, got the list. But just knowing the clubs isn’t enough, right? I wanted to understand WHY he uses them. That meant more digging. I watched videos of him playing, looked for interviews where he talked about his equipment. Tried to piece together the puzzle.
The biggest thing that stood out to me was his irons. The Titleist 620 CBs are classic, blade-style irons. They’re not the most forgiving, that’s for sure. But Harman is a super consistent ball-striker, so he can handle them. I reckon he loves the feel and the control they give him.
Then there’s the wedges. Vokey SM9s are pretty standard, but the 60T is interesting. That “T” grind is designed for tight lies and firm conditions, which makes sense given the Open Championship was played on a links course. He was clearly dialed in for that specific tournament.
Now, I couldn’t just stop at research, could I? I had to get my hands on some of this gear! Sadly, I’m not made of money, so I couldn’t buy everything brand new. I started hitting up used golf equipment sites, looking for deals. Managed to snag a used Titleist 620 CB 6 iron for a reasonable price. Figured that would give me a taste of what Harman’s playing.

Took it to the range, and man, those irons are different! So much more feedback than my current game improvement irons. When you hit it pure, it feels amazing. But when you miss, you REALLY know it. It was a humbling experience, to say the least. I’m definitely not consistent enough to play a full set of those, haha.
What did I learn from this whole experiment? A few things:
- Equipment matters, but it’s not everything. Harman’s skill and consistency are what really make him a champion.
- Understanding WHY a pro chooses their gear is just as important as knowing WHAT they use.
- Trying out different equipment can be a fun way to improve your own game, even if you don’t end up switching everything.
All in all, this was a fun little project. I got to geek out about golf equipment, learn a bit about a pro’s setup, and even try out a new club. Would I recommend everyone go out and copy Harman’s bag? Probably not. But it’s worth doing your research and finding the gear that works best for YOUR game. Now, I’m off to the range to work on my ball-striking… wish me luck!
