So, the other day I was messing around in my kitchen, feeling adventurous, and I thought, why not try making some layered shots? I remembered seeing this thing called an “ABC” shot online, and it looked pretty cool. Time to give it a shot—pun intended.

I started by grabbing all the bottles I thought I’d need. I’m no bartender, but I figured, how hard could it be? Turns out, layering drinks is a bit of an art. Anyway, I decided to go with the classic ABC—Amaretto, Baileys, and Cognac. Sounded simple enough.
Getting Everything Ready
First things first, I needed to get all my ingredients in one place. I lined up the bottles on the counter: Amaretto for that almond-y goodness, Baileys because, well, it’s Baileys, and some Cognac to top it off. I also grabbed a shot glass and a spoon, since I saw someone online say you need a spoon to layer the drinks properly. Didn’t want to mess that up.
The Layering Process
Okay, so here’s where it got interesting. I started with the Amaretto. I poured a little into the shot glass, trying to be all precise and stuff. Then, following the online instructions, I placed the back of the spoon just above the Amaretto and slowly poured the Baileys over it. The idea was to get the Baileys to float on top of the Amaretto. It kinda worked, but it wasn’t perfect. I guess I need more practice.
- Pour Amaretto: Fill one-third of the shot glass.
- Layer Baileys: Pour slowly over the back of a spoon.
- Top with Cognac: Same spoon trick to layer it on top.
Finally, I added the Cognac, using the same spoon method. This part was a bit trickier because the glass was getting full, and I didn’t want to spill anything. Managed to get it in there, though. It looked alright, not exactly like the pictures online, but hey, it was my first try.
The Taste Test
With the shot assembled, it was time for the taste test. I knocked it back, and honestly, it wasn’t bad. The sweetness of the Amaretto and Baileys mixed well with the warmth of the Cognac. It was definitely a unique experience, and I could see why people like these layered shots. They’re fun to make and drink.

Final Thoughts
All in all, it was a fun little experiment. I wouldn’t say I’m a pro at making layered shots now, but it was cool to try something new. If you’re looking for a fun way to impress your friends or just want to try something different, give the ABC shot a go. Just be prepared to make a bit of a mess and maybe not get it perfect on your first try. But that’s part of the fun, right?
I’m thinking of trying out some other layered shots next. Maybe something with different ingredients. If you’ve got any suggestions or tips on how to make them better, let me know. Cheers!
