Okay, so I got really into horse racing lately, and Del Mar is like the place to be in the summer. So, I decided to try my hand at making some predictions – more for fun than anything, I’m no expert!
Getting Started
First, I dug into some past performances. You know, checking out how the horses have been running, what distances they prefer, who’s riding them, all that stuff. It’s like detective work, honestly.
Then I started looking at the specific races for the day. Which horses were entered? What were the conditions of the track? Was it fast, slow, muddy? All these things can make a big difference.
Making My Picks (and crossing my fingers)

Race 1: I went with “Speedy Sue” because she’s been doing well in similar races. Total gut feeling, mostly.

Race 3: “Lucky Star”. This horse seemed to be in good form according to the data I was able to dig up.

Race 6: There was one named “Mud Lover”. The name was too fitting because it rained the day before and my rearch told me some horses are better than others. I threw a couple bucks on that one, just for kicks.
The Results
Well, let’s just say I’m not quitting my day job anytime soon. “Speedy Sue” came in, like, fifth. Not terrible, but not a winner. Lucky Star…I can see why I liked them but they finished around the middle.
“Mud Lover,” though? That crazy horse actually won! Beginner’s luck, I guess!
Overall, it was a blast! I definitely didn’t get rich, but I learned a lot about how much goes into these races. It’s not just picking a name you like – there’s a whole science to it. I might try again next week, maybe with a bit more “science” and a little less “gut feeling.”
