Okay, so, I was trying to figure out this whole “Finalissima” thing, what it’s all about, and who’s won it before. I started by looking up what the Finalissima even is. Turns out, it’s like this one-off football match, a revived thing by FIFA. It seems pretty cool, a game between some top teams.

Then, I went on to see who’s actually won it. I found this game from a while back, where Argentina played Italy. It was a big deal, apparently, at Wembley Stadium. Argentina totally crushed it, winning 3-0. That must have been some match, honestly! I read that it was the first time they did this Finalissima thing. These guys at UEFA have a whole website talking about it, kind of neat.
But I wanted more, you know? Like, is this going to be a regular thing? So I dug around for info on any upcoming Finalissima matches. It looks like they’re planning something for 2026, but the details are kind of scarce. I found this site that’s supposed to have a list of all these matches and results, but honestly, it wasn’t very helpful. They had some past results, but nothing really solid on what’s coming up.
I also stumbled upon something called the “Women’s Finalissima.” Sounds like the same idea but for women’s football. That’s pretty awesome. But again, not a lot of info on who’s played in it or what the deal is.
Oh, and I found something about the UEFA Europa League. That’s different, I think, but it’s related, right? They mentioned the final for this year is going to be in Bilbao, at this stadium called San Mamés. Barcelona had a game there against Lyon, sounds important, too. The winners of the UEFA Europa League get to play in the UEFA Champions League and also the UEFA Super Cup against the winner of the Champions League. Those guys have it good. And the UEFA guys, they’re like, the biggest of the six continental confederations under FIFA. There’s this guy, Aleksander ÄŒeferin, he’s the president of UEFA. And get this, some of the members of UEFA aren’t even fully in Europe! Wild, right? Places like Israel, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and some others.
Then I read about how the Europa League is set up. These teams, they play against eight different teams, four games at home, four away. The top eight teams get to go straight to the round of 16, and the others, from 9th to 24th, they have to play these knockout rounds. It’s a whole process.

Anyway, that’s basically what I found out. It was a bit of a rabbit hole, but kind of interesting. Still not 100% clear on everything about the Finalissima, but I got a better idea, at least. Maybe I’ll check back later to see if there’s more info on those 2026 matches. And I want to see more about that Women’s Finalissima, sounds like something I’d want to follow.
Here is the summary of what I found out about the Finalissima winners:
- Argentina won against Italy 3-0 in the first Finalissima at Wembley Stadium.
- There might be a Finalissima in 2026, but I couldn’t find concrete details.
- There’s also something called the Women’s Finalissima, but I don’t know much about who’s won it.
Additional Information on UEFA Europa League
- The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League final will be in Bilbao at San Mamés Stadium.
- The winners qualify for the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
- Teams play eight different teams in the league phase, with the top eight advancing directly to the round of 16.
That’s all for now. If I find out more, I’ll definitely share it. This whole football thing is way more complicated than I thought!
