Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really get into watching hockey, and a buddy of mine suggested I pick a game and just dive in. He’s a big Blues fan, so tonight’s Wild vs. St. Louis Blues game seemed like the perfect opportunity. I grabbed some snacks, cleared my schedule, and got ready to yell at the TV.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out how to actually watch the game. I don’t have cable, so I went with a streaming service. I choose a famous platform and find tonight’s game.
Then, the game started!
The Actual Game
- First Period: Honestly, at the beginning I was so confused! The puck moves so fast, and everyone is just skating all over the place. I kept losing track of who was who. My buddy tried to explain icing and offsides, but I think it went over my head. I did see some big hits, though, and that got me pumped up.
- Second Period: I started to get the hang of it a little more. I think I finally understood what a power play was, even though the teams are keeping changing. This period seemed a lot more intense. The Wild scored, I cheered!
- Third Period: My heart was pounding! It was a close game, back and forth the whole time. I found myself yelling at the TV, which I didn’t expect. It was all tied up with like a minute left, and I thought for sure it was going to overtime. I started to search for the overtime rules, and when the time is ended. Blues are winning!
My conclusion
I used my phone to look up some of the players’ names during the game, just to get a better feel for who was doing what. Kirill Kaprizov, he is good!
Even though I’m still a complete newbie, I had a blast! It was way more exciting than I thought it would be. I’m definitely going to watch more games, and I might even try to learn all the rules eventually. Go Wild(maybe)!
