Okay, so I’ve been tinkering with this 125 Yamaha motor, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I wanted to share my whole process, from start to finish, in case anyone else is diving into something similar.

Getting Started

First things first, I got the motor. It wasn’t pretty. It was old, dusty, and definitely had seen better days. I started by just giving it a good once-over. I looked at all the parts, tried to identify anything obviously broken or missing, and just generally got a feel for what I was working with.

The Cleaning Process

Next up was the cleaning. Oh boy, was this thing dirty! I grabbed some degreaser, some brushes, and went to town. I scrubbed and scrubbed, and slowly but surely, the grime started to come off. It was actually kind of satisfying to see the metal start to shine through.

  • I used an old toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies.
  • I made sure to wear gloves because that degreaser is nasty stuff.
  • I rinsed everything off with water and let it dry completely.

Taking Things Apart

Once it was clean, I started taking things apart. I was careful to keep track of all the bolts and screws. I used little containers to keep everything organized. I also took pictures along the way so I’d remember how everything went back together.

I discovered that there are various size bolts, and keeping in track of that is a big headache.

Troubleshooting and Fixing

As I disassembled the motor, I started to find some problems.

I also found that the fuel line can get clogged after a period of time.

It’s interesting!

Putting It Back Together

After fixing all the issues, it was time to put everything back together. This was definitely the most challenging part. I followed my pictures, I also found the manual will be helpful. Slow and steady wins the race, I finally got to fire it up and that first turn of the motor was pure magic.

The Final Result

Finally, I got the motor back together! It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. Hearing it running, smooth and strong, was a very, very happy moment.

So, that’s my 125 Yamaha motor adventure. It was a lot of learning, a lot of frustration, but ultimately, a really rewarding experience.
