Deku Haircut: Get the Look (Simple Steps for the My Hero Style)

Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Deku haircut” thing all over TikTok and Instagram, and my kid wanted to give it a shot. You know, the whole fluffy, messy, green-tinged anime hair? I figured, why not? It’s just hair, it’ll grow back. Here’s how my little experiment went down.

Deku Haircut: Get the Look (Simple Steps for the My Hero Style)

Getting Started

First, I had to gather my tools, and trust me, I’m no professional. What I had to prepare:

  • Clippers: I borrowed my neighbor’s.
  • Scissors: Just the regular kitchen ones, I hope that was good enough!
  • Comb: A normal comb.
  • Spray bottle: Filled with water.
  • Hair gel: The cheap stuff from the drugstore.
  • Temporary green hair color: I got the spray-on kind, thinking it would be easiest.

The Cutting Process

I started by spraying my kid’s hair down with the water until it was pretty damp. Then, I used the comb to try to section off the top part – you know, the part that’s supposed to be all fluffy. I’m not gonna lie, this was hard. I probably messed up the lines, but oh well.

Next, I took the clippers – with a longer guard, thankfully, my hand was shaking at this time! – and trimmed up the sides and back. I just went slowly and tried to make it somewhat even. My kid kept giggling, which didn’t help, Let me tell you.

Now for the top. I grabbed the scissors and started snipping away. The idea, I think, is to make it choppy and uneven, so I just kind of went for it. I kept pulling the hair up and cutting at an angle, hoping it would look somewhat layered. There was a lot of “Does this look okay?” and “I don’t know, Mom!” going back and forth.

Styling and Coloring

Once I was (kind of) satisfied with the cut, it was time for the gel. I scooped out a big glob and worked it through the top part of his hair, trying to make it stand up and look all messy and textured. This part was actually kind of fun.

Finally, the grand finale: the green color! I took the spray can outside (didn’t want green walls!) and started spraying. I tried to concentrate it more towards the roots and less on the tips, for that “gradient” effect I saw in the pictures. It was, well, VERY green.

The Final Result

Okay, so it’s definitely not perfect. It’s a little lopsided, the green is probably a bit too intense, and I’m sure a real hairdresser would cringe. But, you know what? My kid loves it. He keeps running around yelling “I’m Deku!” and doing that funny little crouch thing. And honestly, that’s all that matters. It was a fun, messy, slightly chaotic afternoon project, and we made a good memory. Plus, like I said, it’s just hair. It’ll grow back…and maybe next time, we’ll go to a professional!
